Memory Care

Secure, Supportive and Structured Care

Maintaining Dignity and Safety with Individualized Memory Care

Mt. Carmel’s Memory Care program helps individuals living with Alzheimer’s, dementia and other forms of memory loss to maintain their highest level of functional independence within a structured, secure and social environment. Our goal is to support the individual in living their best life while honoring their daily routines, needs and preferences to the fullest extent possible.

Is Memory Care Right for You?

Living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia can be scary for both the individual and their loved ones, especially when they live alone. There are safety concerns – will the individual fall, wander or get confused? There are physical risks – can they properly take care of themselves, cook and do everyday chores? There are even social issues – will they feel isolated, lonely and experience unpredictable and intense mood changes?

The professional team at Mt. Carmel is specialized in memory care and can support the individual and their family to help alleviate the fears that are associated with dementia. We provide a secure environment where your loved one will be safe and cared for with the highest level of compassion. We don’t view memory loss as an inhibitor, but rather an opportunity to uncover new ways to live – and thrive. Families are encouraged to be involved in all aspects of decision-making regarding the care and recreational activities their loved one receives.

Our dedicated and skilled staff is led by an Alzheimer’s-trained director, and we provide 24/7 assistance in the routines of daily living. We place emphasis on purposeful engagement, including activities in our specially designed sunroom and our outdoor Healing Garden. In addition, we also have a flourishing Music & Memory program to help individuals reminisce and experience peace and enjoyment throughout their day.

We know the overwhelming stress on family caregivers when trying to care for a loved one showing signs of Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia. Our memory care professionals are here to talk with you about all of your options before there is an urgency to make a choice.

A Unique Environment of Care

When you visit Mt. Carmel’s Memory Care unit, our hope is you’ll quickly feel at ease. Our thoughtfully designed and secure floor not only provides the safest environment, but a comforting and spacious setting for residents.

Our 36-bed Memory Care community is designed for the comfort of our residents. Individuals with dementia often have a strong connection to their past.  We acknowledge this fact and assist family members with making their living space as familiar as possible by personalizing their loved ones’ room with photos, belongings, keepsakes and furniture from home.

Our bright sunroom, common areas and dining areas are all decorated to provide the proper stimulus. Our residents especially love our house cat, Gypsy, as well as birds and other animals that are regularly brought in for visits.

Nursing staff is available 24/7 for care and support. We understand that Alzheimer’s and forms of dementia can leave a patient scared at times, but a staff member is always a moment away.

Furthermore, our Alzheimer’s Support Group is here to inform and comfort family members, allowing you to share information and experiences to better support your loved one dealing with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.

Healing Garden

Our private outdoor Healing Garden provides residents with a fully accessible, serene and secure haven that allows for quiet contemplation, healing and a sense of well-being. Even 10 minutes a day in a garden like this has shown to reduce stress and blood pressure significantly.

Our garden assures the safety of all residents with our security fencing, video surveillance and unobstructed views for our staff to observe residents. No resident needs to worry about a physical limitation keeping them from accessing the garden because our doors and wheelchair ramp allow full access for all. It’s the perfect venue to get outside for exercise, sunlight and fresh air.

Music & Memory

Mt. Carmel is proud to offer “NH Memories,” a memory-enriching program helping individuals connect with meaningful memories, feelings or people in their lives through the power of music.

Residents have access to portable music players, and with the help of family and trained care specialists, personalized playlists are created, with specific songs carrying special meaning for that individual.

It’s a very moving program that can trigger emotional responses, unlock conversation and elicit reactions that can soothe residents or rekindle a connection with their family members.

The program has been known to be transformational, allowing residents to be less withdrawn and agitated, more conversational, and more social as they reconnect with family members and bond with staff members.
